The Rebecca School provides a year-around school year. The education program at the Rebecca School fosters a child's ability to communicate, relate, and think. The objective is to create classrooms which promote a child's ability to think critically about his or her world, rather than relying upon memory to perform trials or discrete tasks.

PROGRAMS - FIREFLY AUTISM

In addition, we have a Young Adult Program serving individuals ages 18 to 21 years old. Individual goals are created from a strength and needs assessment. Each goal includes multiple learning objects which are targeted daily. Progress on the objectives is assessed regularly.

Children and young adults are taught how to learn from peers, how to work cooperatively with peers and how to find adaptive ways to communicate. Primary : 7 years to 13 years Secondary : 14 years to 18 years Young Adult : 18 years to 21 years Monday — Friday am — pm. We help members of the groups to effectively express feelings, to communicate with others, and to develop and maintain friendships in a positive, comfortable environment.

We believe that our approach, coupled with strong group dynamics will help group members feel confident in their abilities to make friends within the group, as well as outside of the group setting. Currently, groups meet twice a week; after school on Tuesdays and Saturdays. Firefly offers speech and occupational therapy to enhance the services provided to our clients.

Our therapists work as part of a team, integrating these therapies in collaboration with our ongoing ABA treatment. Our therapists work with all of the programs, assisting with issues such as eating problems, sensory integration problems, and fine motor concerns, just to name a few. All of these therapies are included in a multidisciplinary team with a focus on individualized treatment and evidence-based, empirically driven practices. Firefly offers applied behavior analysis services and consultation for students in their public and private school settings, and can contract with schools who are seeking these specialized services.

Appropriate academic skills, complex leisure skills leading to sustained periods of independent play, personal independence, community access, and vocation skills are also emphasized. Individual strengths and needs are identified across all developmental areas including social, language, cognition, motor, and play skills. Progress is assessed daily through graphing and data analysis with a review and revision of goals as needed. A primary focus of the program is functional communication and language.

Services emphasize teaching a child to demonstrate the same developmental level as their neuro-typical peers. Therapy includes teaching and training by highly motivated and trained staff to assist children who would benefit from an individualized, structured learning program. Social Skills Group.
